Navy Pays Tribute To 9/11 Victims

Capt. Lawrence Getzfred
Four years after the 9/11 attacks, the Navy remembers friends lost. At the Naval War College on Friday, it honored the sacrifice of 10 colleagues, students and alumni who died in the attack on the Pentagon. Lt. Cmdr. Benjamin Molina remembers Capt. Lawrence Getzfred, who helped him get out of trouble 20 years ago. "When I met Captain Getzfred, he just helped propel my career," said Molina. "He saw something in me that I didn't see in myself at the time and it was something he thought was worth fighting for." Sept. 11 touched so many in the tight-knit military community. "It's hard to think that there's some folks in the military that don't -- that didn't have someone they knew, even were very close to," said Rear Adm. Jacob Shuford, president of the Naval War College. Lt. Col. Anthony Kanellis knew Maj. Kip Taylor. "We knew so many folks of the Army staff that died, and Kip happened to be the one who attended school here," said Kanellis. "It was traumatic. We knew people that one of the supervisors -- the division chief -- lost nine of his people." The Navy vows not to forget the 10 comrades who lost their lives, saying it will pay tribute to them every year.
